I like to think there is still hope for them...once they start realizing that Mommy and Daddy aren't paying for everything you be surprised how quickly they start getting engaged in what makes the world go around.

And they VOTE!
We just need to shift our educational model to video games and social networking site type formats - throw some texting stuff and put it all in a Mall setting - that will appeal to the masses.
Ever seen Jay Leno go out on the street and ask the general public questions? It is not funny, it is appalling and sad, it amounts to the death of our country and way of life. Uneducated people cannot long remain free.
Why is it that whenever I see the news media interface with the five things I am educated about they ALWAYS get it wrong? Is it because they are only stupid about those five things? I suspect not. I bet they are screwed up on about EVERYTHING they report.
I am an optimist, I am NOT an optimist about our future.
But, I could be wrong.

The root problem is that our population is too safe and too happy and while there have been conflicts, the public hasn't really felt the effects of war since WW2. Stuff like 9/11 was a taste, but most just haven't experienced the fear of the "barbarians at the gates" and the memory has faded.
