Re: URGENT! BUSHMASTER ACR RECALL!

Slam fires with non mil-spec ammo caused by heavy firing pin and firing pin spring. Fix is replacement of each.

Little further down the forum is a big thread bout this.

Re: URGENT! BUSHMASTER ACR RECALL!

Thanks, I called Bushmaster today. The lady told me the firing pin and spring are to be repalced as you said. I gave them my serial number and they are mailing me a box and RMA etc. to repair my rifle. I found out from the lady that there is a serial number link on the BM website. I checked my serial number on the site and found that my rifle is NOT included in the recall. YES this makes no sense, but then neither does va recall on a 2000 dollar rifle. The conversation I had with BM is actually more upsetting then the recall itself....................

I dont think the serial number thingy on the BFI website is working correctly. It doesn't show any numbers need to be recalled when entered. Propably a glich.

What a nutcluster! I was told that the cereal number checker is for ACR owners to check and see IF there rifle has been sent back in and was repaired. Not to see if it is part of the recall. Sent mine in a couple days ago. Yeah I enclosed a couple boxtops from trix and that other nutcluster cereal too.

First of all CALL Bushmaster to know for sure if the rifle has to go back. Another way on knowing, and by no means the last word on this topic/issue...YOU still need to call Bushmaster's 800 number ask for Micky at extension 224 to be sure. But, if you want some piece of mind, I was told this morning that the NEW firing pin is now made out of Titanium so get out your magnet and if the firing pin doesn't stick to the magnet... then there is a 99.9% probability that it has been reworked or come from the factory already with the "Fix". I'm personally going to call once the blizzard is over out here, and hopefully going to get an email as confirmation that it's been reworked and I'm good to go.

On the Bushmaster Web Site there is a box that a rifle serial number can be entered and if the rifle has been re-worked, it will tell you. Certainly, the magnet check is a backup method - but why not check and double check?

That's the problem... BM hasn't updated the website. My ACR was reworked at Sport South the biggest disty in the Country before I purchased it, and when I entered in my S/N it still says call BM... I did just that - and BM suggested to check the firing pin with a magnet to be sure. Take it for what's it's worth and then call BM to be sure. EOM

losman,
Wow, this is a critical recall, I am disappointed to hear the repaired recalled rifles are not uptodate on the web site. Certainly it should be up to date.
I have shot M1 and M1a rifles that will set off match reloads because of soft sensitive match primers at certain times. I think the problems with the firing ACR firing pin is not that it is deffective so much and the amunition some people are buying are outside of military type specifications.
The rifle is sold in a civilain market and now, the firing pin and spring solution after the recall should be enough to safely shoot anything regardless of primer type variations in comercial ammo.
Thanks for the word on the BM Web Site!

I just got my ACR back last week from Bushmaster. I got a new case and they included two 10rnd magazines. I shot about 20 rounds today and had 1 malfunction which was almost a stovepipe (entire length of the empty casing got jammed between the bolt and side of chamber). I'm going to shoot it again sometime this week and see if it happens again.

I was using American Eagle Tactical XM193 5.56 rounds. The malfunction I had was identical to youtube user Jdluisa. Looks like I may need a new regulator.

I was using 10/30 Magpul PMags and this was the first malfunction that I got after 1200 rounds.

ACRguy556.....that's why I asked I didn't want to suggest a solution without knowing what ammo you were using. I have previously mentioned my conversation with the product mgr at BM regarding the ACR. According to him they are still looking into this problem and they are still not admitting that there is a problem openly or officially. So, it depends who you end up talking to that day.

I had a difficult conversation with them because, if in fact the ACR is marketed to fire 5.56 then BM should not be talking about offering this new gas regulator as an option as previously suggested. I'll be really pissed if I have to pay extra to shoot 5.5.6 through a rifle that is marketed to fire 5.56.

I'm keeping an open mind about all this for now...that's until it starts happening to me.

Time will tell what BM officially comes out an says... but there are too many instances occurring where they are going have to release some kind of statement... and soon

I will be taking my new ACR out to the range this Friday to break it in and then I'll start working on feeding it American Eagle 5.56 as well.

Yeah it really sucks. I was hoping to see a new regulator when I got the ACR back. Anyway, I am going to try and shoot it Wednesday morning. I have 200 rounds of 5.56 and going to see what happens.
