Remember this? Bushmaster ad for SHOT '08 shortly after it was announced they would be taking over production of the newly renamed Magpul Masada.

Which immediately set me into action to MS paint one of the accompanying pics to create "my" ACR.

Just some pics from throughout the years from the evolution of the Masada through to the ACR. I take no credit nor claim ownership. If any are your images please let me know and I'll either remove them or gladly give full credit where credit is due in bringing the images to the rest of us folks not lucky to have attended!

Here's an ACR, version 1.0, circa SHOT '08. Note the transitional stock adjustment from the Masada and the gas block adjustment.

For all you integral front sight haters, bask in its glory! An excellent SMGLee pic from the Masada days.

Originally posted my Rich of Magpul. This would be what I'd term a version 2 ACR. Newer gas block design. Note no ejection port block as there was a polymer port liner debuted shortly later that year. It is also more of a true Magpul FDE color. One of the reasons I believe the fixed or "basic" stock was shown most prevalently at this time was due to the "enchanced" stock going through redesign as noted by the transitional stock in the images above.

I've got a bunch of pics saved that show progression of design that I rediscovered on my computer. It was neat to compare them to a production ACR. I was a Masada stalker for a short period in my life. It's OK now, I've got papers that say I'm not a threat anymore though I'm not supposed to go within 100 miles of Boulder, CO... :D :D

Another SMGLee pic. This one is neat because you can see an original prototyped Masada lower quite literally "in the white". Also shown of course is an early gas block. Note the differences from Masada stock to the current ACR production. They're slight, but they're there.

Ambi charging handles and front sight.

Raw extrusion to a semi finished Masada receiver.

Solidius- post up what you got! I'm just going through the ones I have that grab my attention.

More pics from the Masada days...

Early trunnion. Note the skeletonized rails. They'd be a haven for collecting crud but when it comes to saving ounces it'd be a place to start. A couple sprays of gunscrubber would clean 'em out though.

Masada bolt

Barrel assembly. The first barrels were mod'd CMMG barrels.

What?! No M4 cuts?! What will the arf'ers say?!

I think this was from SHOT '09 because it was a quiet year for ACR news. They had a few rifles but no new news really that year. Of interest in this pic is the ejection port deflector. A larger variation showed up on the Massoud later.

Nice collection of pics!! Thanks for sharing. Not knowing about the ACR / Massada until early last year, it's nice to see the evolution from concept to what we have today. I can now understand why there was so much negativity when it was 1st released for those who followed it from the beginning.

Talking about negativity, there was much ado about Bushmaster taking over. Then there was rumblings about the fixed stock (even though the original info release mentions it though it was never illustrated). Then it was that it would only be released in black. Then the 1:9 barrels. Then the price. It went on and on. It seemed whenever any news made it out of either camp it was met with tremendous gnashing of teeth.

Having handled one of the Masada rifles, and now my ACR, fundamentally there is no real difference. But this goes for all you die hard EOTech fanboys, the original charging handle location was ten times better! A pox on your houses to necessitate such a change! Viva la T1! ;)

This pic is really convincing to dabble into the NFA world if you haven't already. Tax stamps are addictive.
