I have watched the guy on youtube and read things on the web in regards to the acr being able to shoot only 556 or 223. My question is if I buy an ACR does it only shoot one or does it shoot both without any modification or adjusting between the 2 with the gas regulator?
TIA

ETA: I do not know anyone with an ACR personally

It shoots both equally as well. Though a few people have reported problems, the rifle was designed to shoot both and the manufacturer does not prohibit or recommend one over the other based on my reading observation.
Sorry, I am on my iPhone, but ther is a thread on this forum, somewhere, about this subject. On the whole, I think you will come away from reading it without anything specific to point at.
As far as YouTube goes, the complaints seem be disporportionally represented there - this is just my opinion and will probably piss someone off. I am in no way saying there have not been people with problems - rather I see many more people who seem to be happy with the ACR.

Keep in mind the one he got was one of the first made. From what I gather, his initial gas ports differ from the ACR's currently on the shelf. Sounds like if there was a problem, Bushmaster made adjustments to make it better. Just the kind of thing that comes with anything brand spanking new. I would say it's safe to get one now without that problem.

It'll shoot 5.56 or 223 just fine. Mine chews up the Prvi M193 like nobody's business and puts them inside a couple inches @ 100yds...when I do my part of course!

As for what's on youtube, you have to take it with a grain of salt. I really hope that guy gets squared away. Show me any product and I'll show you negative feedback. Look at it this way, if the ACR really were crap, then the market would be flooded with over 5k used rifles. As it is, used rifles are out there of course, but most of them on the auction sites are dealer stock.

With regards to chambers for the most part (and this is definitely not the rule) a lot of manufacturers have err'd on the side of caution and have changed their chamber dimensions to allow for either regardless what is stamped on the barrel. Reason being that it's cheaper to change a spec than spool up their legal defense team. Always good to doublecheck though.

Using the standard gas regulator that comes with the rifle set on "U";

PRVI, XM193, Winchester White box, American Eagle 223, old mill surplus m193 from the 70's, commercial 223 from federal, speer and remington and all have cycled perfectly thru 2500 rounds fired. Only thing I havn't used thru mine is steel cased ammo so I can't talk about it's reliabilty.

Thank you for all the replies. I have wanted an acr since they have came out but knew with it being new it would have some issues at first. Seems they have all been ironed out for the most part and I will be ordering one in brown.

Coyote is great if you live in the desert...black just looks better. My ACR Enhanced Black gets delivered in two days...cant wait. I have 800 rounds of 5.56 that I am going to dump out of it in the next few weeks.
