Purchasing my ACR set me back a bit as you can imagine... I am wondering if anyone can recommend a good affordable red dot sight. I would like to get something that's not too expensive until I can save up some more loot. I know that I will get what I pay for, but I would like to get something to use rather than the iron sights. any suggestions would be appreciated. thanks.

This is what I have been using on mine:

It's affordable, holds zero and just plain works. I bought it as a proof of concept for the Aimpoint micro about 8 months ago. (before dropping big coin on it) Still don't have the Aimpoint, cause the one above has worked really well for what it is. Please realize that my ACR is a range gun at the moment and if and when it becomes my primary defense rifle, I will buy the Aimpoint.

I can second cjt's input on the Primary Arms sight. I've got a few actually and have used them on .22's to a 12ga and a little of everything in between. No problems yet.

However, I'm not a fan of their riser mount. It works but it's just not for me. Luckily any H1/T1 mount will work. If you go that route, a LaRue HK height mount is the way to go. ;)

Absolutely agree, however I went with the American Defense absolute co-witness mount. The link above is a combo deal that includes that mount. LaRue makes a great mount, I just prefer American Defense.

Either company would make a great choice for mounts.

Aha, so it is. I didn't know they partnered up to offer a better mount. I have to use LaRue because of the Troy micros so I'm stuck in my options, and, bias!

I did see they had Troy rear sights on sale for $88 as well. Full size, but not a bad deal.

Thanks for the feedback, I appreciate it. I am still trying to figure out the best route to go. At first, I wanted to get some sort of ACOG for it... seeing as that will give me some longer range options, however for the most part, my ACR will be a "range rifle" for now... and perhaps a red dot sight would be more appropriate. Whether I go the ACOG or red dot sight route, it's still going to be a significant purchase for me and I just want to make the right move. Anyways, thanks again for the feedback. I will keep you all posted on what road I decide to go down.

Aimpoint PRO? More expensive than Primary Arms but well below ACOG in terms of financial damage

+1 for Primary

If I'm not mistaken the Sig Sauer Red Dot are just re-labeled Primary Optics. If that's the case they are great for the money. I'm running one my Arsenal AK and it held it's zero well.

BTW: I have both an ACOG TA31RCO and an Aimpoint Comp M2 in the trading post ;)

+1 for the aimpoint PRO it comes with the mount so that saves you money, has the 2 MOA dot vs 4 on others, and the battery lasts for three years or something. It was 400 with free shipping from botach tactical and is ready right out of the box. I also believe I saw an email from Botach that they were having a special on the magnifier and aimpoint micro. I put some links below but good luck

here is a link to some package deals: http://www.botachtactical.com/packagedeals.html

this one is for the aimpoint PRO: http://www.botachtactical.com/aipariop.html

Hmmmm Eotech is far from lightweight IMO, I'm sure many would agree - I do love that sight which is mounted to my ACR as well, though I don't have to lug it around the freaking desert all day every day on missions.

Yeah, EOTech is heavy. However it's what I am running on my ACR and I love it for a change from my T1's.
