Ok, I just ordered my first ACR enhanced from Jet Guns (Let me know it these guys are bad news). The price was absolutely awesome. They assured me it is not a blemished unit and it is new...more over the real regular retail version I would get at my local shop that is charging 600 more for the same unit, they just want to sell a ton of them. I am new to tactical rifles and want to make sure I made the right choice. There are so many option out there some fading such as the Sig 556 and some yet to truly grace the civvy market such as the HK 416 (MR556A1).
I currently have a Ruger SR-556c that will be for sale shortly, I bought it cause I just didnt want to spend the money on the ACR at the time nor did I want to spend the cash on an LWRC. I looked at the POF and the LWRC (Loved both but they are still just ARs..yet very good ones if not the best in the piston AR pack) As for my Ruger, I like it but didnt love it. It is a very decked out AR from the factory but it is once again an AR. It has a fair amount of muzzle jump so the second shot recovery is typical of any AR both DI or Piston. I dont hate ARs but they have been around so long so many have them and I find the ergos to be fair not to mention the limitations a little overdue. I was hoping my SR-556c would chew threw wolf being a piston but it had some issues. I had it jam so bad it was very difficult clear (Almost put a complete end to the range day)...I got it but was disappointed that it happened and that is jammed so bad. If I needed this rifle in a fire fight...I would not trust it. The rifle had several hundred brass cased rounds thru it before to break it in that I was certain the wolf would go (And the gas was set right). In the past I have seen the Sig 556 chew thru Wolf and cheaper steel case and lacquer ammo with ease...I love to shot brass (who doesnt) but it is a $100 more per 1000 rounds then steel. I dont trust the SR-556c with wolf after the two significant jams and dont really trust an AR much after being at the range seeing just how many had jamming issues and feed problems (these were with guys that lube their ARs well (DI versions) and keep them very clean. My SR-556c was set to the right gas setting for wolf as well...the highest. The PMC was fine on 2 but wolf had to be higher. Reliability is a tremendous priority for me. I want to be confident when I need my rifle it will go and go with damn near any ammo I feed it. I found the Ruger to be very accurate on the first round but does hop to ensure a not as good second shot...something I believe the ACR doesnt suffer from as much, this I believe has something to do with weight. It seems to be very flat firing and second shot acquisition is better on an ACR then on an AR. I am wonder how the recoil is on the ACR in comparison to an AR (I can never find a straight answer on this...far too many haters).
Anyway (and I apologize for the lengthy paragraph above just sharing some background) are you guys happy with your ACRs? Would you have gone with them again after owning one. Or would you have gone a different route such as a SCAR, Sig 556, XCR or an AR...something completely different? Also how does it stack up again what you've owned in the Past such as ARs, Sig 556...etc.
I would love to see a side by side shoot out between the Sig 556, SCAR, ACR, AR, XCR to see who would do the best...composed of rack rifles only..no mods. It would be great to see them broken down category such as cleaning, accuracy, durability (without cleaning), breakdown, etc...not just specs.
Anyways share your take on your ACR with this new buyer and let me know what you think...it has been hard to sort through the haters and fanboys to get a really straight answer. More so did I make the right choice? Thanks
