What are some practical uses to deploy Night Vision Optics? Outside the realm of active military and law enforcement. What justifies the high cost for the average shooter or even an advanced shooter to use? Why did you chose Gen 1,2,3 or goggles over mono or scopes?

Honestly, save for a SHTF scenario, or if your house is continually being burglerized/vandalized at night, I don't see a practical use for normal folks. I think I would stick to gun optics if I ever decided to go that route.

I guess it would depend on the person wanting them. Maybe they're more interested in stacking the deck in every situation and since typically we can count on half of an any day being night time then why not plan for that too? Though I agree with Francis, if you have them and intend to use them for anything other than spying on the neighbors they'd better be training with them.

I knew this guy in the Air Force that flat out refused to wear any NVG's. He said he saw a ghost once. No correlation to the topic other than it popped into my head.

i agree nvg's, ir laser, and suppressed makes a freaking sweet show, i was zeroing my hk416 and when you fire you could see the streaks from the bullets every time you shot, almost like tracers

and goteron your rifle is sexy! i wish i could snag a peq15 for a decent price, but every one i find is leo or .mil

after i upgrade to a pvs 14 i'm going to get the peq15 too, my envis has a better focus from what i read but the pvs14 has better mounting options (and gain contol)

Better to have them and not need them ,than need them and not have them! Well worth the money. Weapon mounted PVS-14 behind Aimpoit Comp M3 2moa, with optional head gear attachment of course :)
Gated or non gated depending on what type of environment you will be using it in.

Hey goteron, seeing it's an ACR forum it doesn't much matter but that definitely not a picture of a G21 with a TiRant can... :D

There should have been a youtube link below the ACR pic to shooting one... Let me find and repost:

REMOVETHIS::::http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G7QLS8hCPdM&feature=channel_video_title

That should work. That is my G21 with Tirant and a TLR-2 I modified to be IR.

My next project is IR crimson trace grips for my M&P... I finally found the diodes, not sure its going to work, but I am sure going to try it.
