Hi all just wanted to say hi. I bought the ACR so I can fire it with my suppressor without gas in my face and have a dedicated piston system. It's a nice system. Well I've been a ACR owner for 2 weeks and decided to do a little painting. I'm debating whether or not to paint the entire rifle. What do you guys think? I tried posting this in the Gallery but I guess I did it wrong.

EDITED/UPDATED: 6-25-11

So I ended up painting the entire rifle :) I'm not concerned about durability. Back in the day when I was in the USMC we had plenty of boring hours in the sandbox. I saw the motor T guys painting the Hummers and LAV's and helped out and took some paint from them. On our rifles we painted all kinds of wierd/creative camo. I personally, prefer the look of a worn out look on my M4 and only used paint to cover up the shiny metal worn spots. I would spray a dab of whatever color available to cover up the spot but one day I sprayed too much and tried removing some with a rag and after dabbing it with a rag it ended up with this design. After doing this multiple times with different colors I came up with this! The paint colors I used where all 4 camo paint cans that Walmart offered. I varied from a torn up rag to a ripped up sponge. Lightly dab/paint with it and surprisingly enough it looks like camo. Whats great about this method, if you screw up or add too much of a certain color just repeat the process with a different color. Of course, I had to add pictures

Nice job, the painted parts really look good. The butt stock may be a pain but I think the whole thing would look good painted.

How did you do that? I imagine krylon holds up well to scratching off or did you coat it afterwards. I kind of like the partial work. You just use different colors and splatter it? Use adhesive promoter first or sand it? Maybe ill give it a shot before ordering a tan handguard. Id keep re recievers factory color. Just my opinion. Good work though. I think here's flat clear coats to seal it up. But again. Not sure if krylon is tough enough to hold up. I would probably seal mine if I were to do it. But then my acr isn't going through the torture of heat, sand, and rubbing on things like my pea shooter I had in iraq. Id like to see more pics posted. Maybe mask it and just do the cheek rest.

I'd love to see a black one painted in a similar pattern with OD.

I have a black handguard and od green and black xtm rail panels I was going to put on. Ill be the text mule and do a brown and od green on black when mine gets back from recall. I just want to find a color to closely match the fde color since that's the stock color.
I have the stock now. I will mask it up and paint the cheek rest. Just looking for my can of adhesive promoter. Ill put it on after I sand it. Makes paint stick better. I could always do a mock up and paint over the tape and post it up. See suggestions and comments from everyone. Thanks johnny for starting this thread.

od on brown folder

I took a stab at it. Used bulldog adhesion promoter and krylon flat camo. It looks ok. I tried adding black and I couldn't get the splatter to look good. Should I do the inner part black? Keep the stock part brown and cheekwell green? I don't think im going to add tan. I wasn't satisfied with my ability to splatter the other color on. It looked ok but the green and black don't contrast enough. Couldn't find a color to match the brown anyway. Once I get some suggestions ill go from there then ill hit it with the flat protective enamel. This should be tough though. Two coats adhesion promoter and at least four of paint hope you guys like it. Its simple but I think to really look good it needs more color. Keep in mind I have a basic black. Ill try od brown and black if I ever get my rifle back from Bm. Hope it comes in time before I leave for a month. I think if I got a brown hand guard it would balance it out then do od and black on the recievers.
