Hi all! First time poster, bit of a lurker here!

Anyhow, my new ACR Enhanced should be shipping today to my FFL out here in California and obviously I can't wait to get my hands on it! Unfortunately it's still gotta sit with my FFL for another 10 days for the DROS period....

Well, I've been reading all the stuff on the forums trying to get a feel of what to expect but I don't recall seeing anyone posting on how they broke in their new rifle.

So, what have you guys done? Cleaned it a certain way? Lubricate it? (although from what I understand it's meant to leave dry). Anyhow... please let me know if there's anything in particular I should look into doing before sending that 1st shot down range!

Also if you could also add your preference for range ammo that'd be appreciated... and I'm hoping I've read correctly in staying away from Wolf ammo!

Thanks guys!

I just wiped it off, zeroed my sights and starting giving it hell. Didn't have any issues until I ran some steel cased ammo (russian made). Stick to brass cased ammo only. I learned that the hard way.

For plinking, I used a lot of American Eagle and it ran great and held nice groups. Which the russian ammo had decent groups too. If you shop around, you can find American Eagle 55gr for about 30 bucks (100rd). I had one bad round of the AE ammo, it was missing a primer.

Where do you usually find it?

Not to sound repetative, but break in is swab out the bore, load up magazines and blast away until you run outta ammo. Afterwards, wipe down rifle, swab bore and repeat until you are ammo broke. :)

most any gun store. i think even the chain outdoor stores like Dick's and bass pro shop and gander mountain carry the american eagle. cheaperthandirt.com and gunbroker.com have some good deals on ammo usually. if you can get it for a reasonable price, lake city 55grain usually runs through anything without many issues at all. it's what the military uses. basically, if you can get a decent plinking/bulk ammo for about 30-40cents a round, you are doing pretty good. just stay away steel cases

That all sounds pretty awesome. I'm loving how versatile the ACR is. As I said before mine was supposed to ship this past Friday but I've yet to hear about a fedex tracking number :(

Also to add to the topic, how safe a bet is it that the ACR I've got coming will be post recall? If it helps it was originally ordered online on 15 April.

chances are that it is post recall, you can check the serial number on bushmasters site, or you could see if a magnet sticks to the firing pin, if so its pre-recall

Same. I finally made it out to the range this weekend to pop the cherry on my ACR and get her MBUS's and ACOG all sighted in. I just boresnaked the barrel before leaving and ran 180 rounds of XM193 through her. She ran flawlessly. I was hitting 3" diamond targets at 100 yards by the end.

I've shot nothing but steel case ammo through my ACR. and have NOT a single problem. FWIW. Have shot 1400 rounds.
That's the next step for me. I'm planning to introduce her to some Silver Bear on the next range trip.

As an update to my post, I finally got my hands on my rifle when I visited my FFL to complete the DROS. Now gotta wait 10 more days to actually take that sucker home... the countdown begins.

Also, thankfully, I got the serial number off of my rifle which was BLO5XXX and it wasn't listed as requiring a recall.

10 days... ugh...
