has anyone ever been able to get bushmaster, or anybody for that matter to reveal the purpose for that push pin hole located on the trunion right between the forearm hole and lower receivers front push pin hole? my guess is either 7.62 x 39 OR 30 Remington AR conversion(s) anyone care to comfirm , or speculate themselves??????

it's got to be for future lowers as the current lower might not be ale to accept larger size mags...I have noticed it as well and that's only this I could come up with... my 2 cents

Don't know. Wasn't on the Masada prototypes and those took the AK style lower, albeit as envisioned then. My guess would be a cut to lighten the trunnion and overall weight of the rifle but that's a solid SWAG.

the only problem i see with mine, is that if i were to go to the center hole for a new lower my handguard wont fit, theres too much material behind the pin

If you compare the hole in question with the other two you'll also notice that it is not beveled like the other two. Well, it's that way on mine at least.

It remains to be seen of course, but I'm still sticking by my original assessment that it was a way to remove material and lighten the rifle. The fact it shares a common diameter I reckon is that it was machining convenience since the tool was already in the holder in the mill. I'd have to scan it in but I still have an old article from early '08 showing Masada #001 w/o the same feature.

Maybe (hopefully) its for a 308 lower reciever? i know the ejection port and magazine cutout in the upper are long enough to handle a 308, and it wouldnt be hard to change the recoil spring or bolt. It's probably just me wishing though....
