What Type of Mag Pouch Do You Prefer?

What kind of system do you use to carry spare mags?

Seeing as how once your carbine is deployed concealment is a moo point, mag pouches tend to be offered in any configuration desired. I prefer kydex pouches for the positive retension and another surface to rack my weapon off of if the need to bring it into one handed battery arises. I tend to stray from anything with velro straps because I find it combersome when trying to strip the mag out of the pouch under pressure. Also I do like the nylon pouches with the bungee cord over them, simply sweep it clear as you grip the fresh mag.

Full on Vests? Plate Carriers with attached Molle? Belt Carriers?

Using 511 flapped mag pouches on a 511 vest. Workable for now, still looking for better. They are attached by Molle connectors

I like a flapped pouch if for no other reason than it's what I'm used to. (Shoot, the old LC-2 belt and suspenders I had for half of my service really weren't all that bad...) Keeps them more secured when rolling and running around. Most of the gear I get is Tactical Tailor and use their copy of the SDS RACK double mag pouches. Chest rig too. I'm not going into battle any time soon so simple gear works just fine for me.

Have some with the bungee but have had one loop of bungee get caught on the corner of the mag more than once and was re-indoctrinated into the knowledge that Simunitions hurt so don't like them as much.

I'm kind of a gear whore so my load outs vary. I tend to favor the SKD/Eagle chest rig for those light days (8+1) and the Eagle TAC-V10 vest (12+1) for days I want to feel like a Delta SEAL Sniper and marathon sessions of Medal of Warfare Solid.

I prefer the nylon pouch with the bungee, however I don't engage the bungee on first (primary) magazine. Instead I use a kydex insert for retention and that way I don't have to mess with a bungee during rapid reloads.

I'm surprised to see so much preference in the pouch & flaps. When I run a vest with flaps, I usually just stuff the flap into the pouch and it works as the needed tension to hold the mag. This keeps them secure while drastically speeding up mag changes.

We're looking into a Molle adaptive strip where the user can run their Kydex Mag pouches off their belt or integrate them them into their Molle/PALS vest. The Kydex maintains it's shape for quicker insertion when feeding, but also serves as a contact surface for reinitiating your weapong into battery, especially if you only have one hand available. (ie. Secondary Weapon Failure to Return to Battery= smack the rear of the slide onto the pouch) (Slide Lock= Rack of the pouch) First choice would be to use your holster but the more help the better.

I really like the looks of the new Tactical Assault Panel bib type thing that both attaches to armor (which is increasingly the norm these days, at least on the mil-spec side) and also a more conventional vest/harness.

Im trying to get my unit to order the tap looks like a good setup for the iotv!
I am hoping more and more USMC units get their version, so I can eventually get one in Coyote Brown. Pop up every now and then on evil bay, but usually about $200-250 every time. I don't want one that much lol

Ah, see I haven't posted here in this thread for awhile. I was able to get a USMC Chest Rig aka Coyote TAP for about 90 a month or so ago. Put some pics up in the ACR gallery and another thread, too.

I had a bit of free cash burning a hole in my pocket, too, so also embraced my inner mall ninja and bought a Spartan II to replace my trusty minimally used IBA carrier (and reuse the IBA soft armor). Chest rig came with the MTV adapters for it, which are perfect since the Spartan II is essentially the proto MTV consumer version. It matches the IBA color perfect, but itself is a bit different from the more brownish the Marines switched to on MTV and SPC. I'll have to get some pictures in the next few days.

ha ha never did take pics. Got the soft armor in there and the TAP connected but never put the IFAK or anything else on, though I have the harness and carrier set to have the TAP on right. I'm hoping I have some free time this weekend. Been wanting to go shoot the ACR again, too.
