Hi all...

Just got my enhanced ACR last weekend. Haven't had any opportunities to hit the range yet but I'm really excited to give it a good testing.

However... for the life of me I can't get the enhanced handguard off. I've removed the two sling "rivots" (or whatever they're called) and pop out the handguard pin but the handguard won't come off.

Please tell me there's a simple trick that I'm missing... or is this handguard just a pita to remove?

Thanks for any tips.

Hmmmmm,

To remove the enhanced handguard, just pop the hanguard pin like you did and slide it out front until the front pins are disengaged, (bout 1/4 inch) Then pull it off. You didn't need to remove the sling attachment points. I dont remember mine being that difficult. I have since replaced the enhanced with the basic handguard. It just works better for me!!

Thanks CTJ. You're right... I didn't need to remove the sling attach points. I watched a couple disassembly videos and all of them make it look very easy to slide the handguard off towards the end of the barrel. However mine is locked tight. When I pop the front pin the handguard will move about an 1/8th of an inch but that's it. No matter how hard I try to pull (or push) it forward the thing won't budge.

Argh...

Hmmmm,

Try this, roll the rifle on it back then try to slide the handguard off. I know on mine sometimes the handle used to release the barrel will flop into a position that will kinda jam the handguard somewhat, (with the basic handguard) Being on it back will let gravity keep the handle up against the barrel.

Just an idea

my enhanced rail was a pita to remove, until i wore off the coating off the bolts that sit under it on the receiver

like they said you pull the pin then pull the rail forward then down to remove it

Check the milling of the two centering pins on the removable part then inspect their grooves on the upper. Maybe it's too tight. Mine slides to the barrel tip easily after pin removal. Getting back on however is a little tricky. Nothing that more practice won't cure.

I've yanked and tugged on this thing so much I'm about ready to smoke a cig and call it a night (forget the sexual overtones there... I don't even smoke).

I took some pics Devildog but I don't know if it will really help. Can't really get an image of anything relevant on the handguard. :(

Bigdog and Scrotus... thanks for your feedback as well. PITA doesn't even begin. I honestly can't make it wiggle more than maybe a 1/16th of an inch with the pin out. As far as checking the milling... I can't move it enough at all to see anything.

Maybe it's time to send it back to Bushy. Ugh...

(I've tried posting the pics but something keeps erroring out)

I have a pistol grip on mine. Try one out for added leverage. If you don't have one go to your gun dealer and borrow one thus illustrating you problem at the same time. I think we both have some bad bushy luck. Must be all that "bush I pounded" lol

Well... quick update. I took the rifle out for the first time and fired about 100 rds through it before I had to call it quits do to some family issues. In order to clean it I had to get the handguard off. Needless to say I tugged like a mother and it finally came free. I guess I ran into the same issue that Bigdog ran into. Once I got it off the first time the coating must have worn enough because now I can replace and remove it with much more ease.

thanks all!

Anyone finding it difficult to get the enhanced handguard back into place? It takes some effort to yank mine off with my vertical hand grip. I've noticed some scratches on the barrel from the jerking but lining up the pin to reattach it always takes me a flashlight and a few mins. I'm probably going to just take a marker and make a line on the bottom so I can line it up quicker.
