Bushmaster ACR - Take's a beating in magazine article review :

SureFire - Combat Tactics - Summer 2011 , Volume 9, Number 1 ( Page 125 )

The Author - Cameron Hopkins

He did not have many good things to say about the ACR.

I will not make a judgement on the veracity of his comments in the article as I have not had an opportunity to get to the range and evaluate my ACR rifle.

Apologies _ I double posted this thread. did not see it post properly.

I have that magazine. The author had so much hate for the ACR that it could have done everything right and still got a bad review. Seems like he was mad just to have to shoot and reveiw it.
It has some misinformation. Very poor article IMO.

I heard about this. Can anyone give some details on the complaints? I don't want to spend my good money on the magazine unless I have to. From what I heard, sounds like it was very biased. Can anyone elaborate?

Thanks!

He has worked at Surefire. long has he been a controversial firearms writer. Every so often, he is known to write things that make people say, "huh?" He has made quite a few enemies of people who know what they are talking about. Read Cam with a grain of salt.

I read the review.

Some of his concerns are valid. Other concerns seem like sour grapes or ass-hurt.

It wouldn't take much to sort the ACR to live up to the fantasy that Magpul hyped up.

Lighter barrel profile, get the cost down another $100, 1/7 barrel, caliber conversion kits, and barrel length options.

Best answer is a reply on another board about it:

"The article is a joke. Here's the main points it makes:
The ACR will never amount to anything because the SCAR already existed beforehand.
Travis Haley once shot an ACR that jammed.
Pistons, rotating bolts, and interrupted thread barrel attachments have been used before.
The ACR is currently available in .223/5.56 only.
One demo ACR shot 4 MOA with non-match ammo, another shot 1.5 MOA with non-match ammo, and a third shot 3 MOA with non-match ammo.
None of the 3 ACRs had a malfunction during test fire.
Bushmaster won't make money on the ACR because it's not an AR15.

There is no real rifle evaluation except for a handful of groups from the bench using non-match ammo.
BM seriously needs to get parts out there cheaper and at least offer a 1/7 light profile barrel model. They would do well to release 6.8 and DMR/PRS variants, as well before the end of the summer. That shuts up just about every hater that's out there and really compares well against the SCAR. Bonus points if they offer more Magpul in Coyote Brown and also have 40-round PMAGs and a few other goodies.

I agree that BM needs to get the 5.56 1/7 light profile barrel out now, I am not so sure about the 6.8 conversion.

Although there seems to be a lot of clamoring for the 6.8 conversion, I bet that when it comes time to part with the money, very few owners will actually purchase the kit.
