i have the ACR with the bottm rail, and for some reason, it just doesnt want to come off, the manual states just push the pin as far as it goes through. but it doesnt come off, any suggestions here, becuase i tried a rubber hammer with slight force with a 1/16 push pin to see if its just getting stuck or jamming with no luck. i want to fire this weapon, but i wont till i get the rest of the packing oil removed..

Separate the upper and lower completely. Remove bolt group so it doesn't go flopping around. Push the pin all the way to the side. If you have a forward grip it'll give you a little leverage to pop it off. There are two tabs on the handguard that fit inside forks on the end of the receiver so it needs to slide forward about half an inch before it can be completely removed. Brand new it'll fit tight but will loosen.

DSM,

It seems the Pin even with the upper seperated from the lower is not going all the way through, i hope this purchase is not an epic fail, or its 1800 down the tube till its goes back to the factory for yet the 3rd time.... i just picked it up today after two recalls and i bought it in november

Had the same issue with my gun. Hand guard was a beast to get off the first time; I thought I was doing something wrong. Watched a few vids and read the manual...man! Its just me! What the hell! Ended up needing to pry it off the first few times. I also oiled the pin and male/female ends where the guard joins the receiver to try to help get it started the first few times.

Its still stiff, but it comes off without the aid of tools, especially after I put the first 250 rounds through it yesterday.
