There is no way in hell the Army was going to adopt MARPAT. Never going to happen, no way, no how. So why the very public dick measuring contest between branches is anyones guess.

The Army would be better served by smartening up and just rolling with Multicam. The odds of them doing better are slim to none.

The Army claimed Tuesday that it's not looking to swipe the Marines' combat uniform, after a top official said in an interview that the branch might just use the same design over the Corps' objections.
The Army is weighing different camouflage patterns as it moves to select a new set of uniforms. The older Universal Camouflage Pattern has been criticized as ineffective, and some soldiers see the Marine Corps' MARPAT (Marine Pattern) as vastly superior.

Gotta give credit to the Corps. They are the only ones who actually thought it out, got two patterns for two different environments, and actually stuck with them.

Think about all the money already pissed away on the different patterns that have recently been adopted, only to switch to a better pattern.

The price tag for ACU is $11 billion in clothing and gear, when we could have just selected Multicam back in 2004. Not to mention a hundreds of millions in Multicam gear spent since 2010 for Afghanistan, when we could have gone Multicam to begin with.

A universal pattern is not a bad idea. It's a very good idea actually, but the selection of UCP botched the execution.

I think it's ridiculous all the guys I see here wearing Multicam can't wear them when they go back. In fact, on a trip to BAF, one of the TF Rangers wore his Crye's and then couldn't leave the Camp to go eat because he "wasn't in uniform".

I gotta say the Army has some gay ass rules. I thank God I never went that route.

I have to agree. I think some of it may do with the fact that its such a large branch. Getting a few thousand in one place at the same time is an accomplshment. Getting the whole branch in the same uniform would be asking alot. I kind of see the beret and the acu as a recruitment technique verses functional. The marpat uniforms blend well in their invironments. My acus mostly hide me in front of a pile of rocks. I like the multicam but try still need a better desert uniform. Like mentioned before...they dumped so much into the uniform. Adopting something new seems far off. And I've seen some silly rules myself. But I've seen quirks from every branch.

Don't get me wrong, fleet Navy has some RIDICULOUSLY gay ass rules. NSW is where the gayness fades considerably.
