It's hard to know exactly where the Army is going with this. Lots of confusion, blurry objectives, and specs that don't seem to make sense.

An example being "hyper burst". What the hell is the point?

RESPONSE: Yes-Hyper burst does exist in the market. Duplex ammo does not constitute “Hyperburst. The Precision Match Trigger is required to support all firing modes.

Or atleast phased plasma rifles in the 40 watt range. Honestly I am surprised someone hasn't come up with a way to fire miniature airburst nukes from magazine fed rifle sized launchers by now.

The "point" of Hyperburst, as I understand it in the AN-94 (which uses a freaking PULLEY to achieve this effect) is to put two rounds in the same hole...the first round weakening/defeating the armor, and the second round using the handy dandy hole in the armor that it's found to terminal effect. The benefit is that you get two rounds fired before the operator of the weapon feels the recoil pulse of the first one. The only weapon I know of that can do this is the AN-94 which is absurdly complex, and no doubt stupid expensive to produce. (Hell, I don't even know for sure if it *works*. Ole Ivan has been awful quiet about it since 1994...)
