I understand that the original design of the Masada had a reciprocating ambi charging handle. Has anyone looked into what it would take to modify the current system to run a non-reciprocal ambi charging handle?

The 1st gen ACR's had an ambi charging handle so it shouldn't be impossible.

And the Masada's charging handle wasn't reciprocating. Some of the prototypes would flop around because they had been beat to hell and weren't production grade.

Im all for it. I shoot lefty so I had to change it. It would be nice to have one on each side. Im sure someone will make one some day.

I wonder what might've changed in their design for bushmaster to opt for a single sided latch.

I couldn't find it in the forums, but I also remember seing something a awhile back.

Yeah it took a bit of practice to profiently run reaction side and manipulate the charging handle properly, but all the same it would just be easier to utilize an ambi handle.

Hahaha, taking it back to the Salem Witch Trial days huh? Don't know how the Southern Paws on the forum will take to that.

But anyway it's important to be able to run both right handed and left handed (Barricades, and one handed due to injuries)

Seems fairly easy to make one yourself provided the proper tools. Just need to get your hands on 2 charging handles for the knobs, you can really use a bunch of different things for this in reality.

What makes me wonder is that looking at pics of the Gen1 ACR's the ambi charging handles appeared to have some more going on with them than just having a knob sticking on the other side. The handle cams pieces on the slide assembly so what would happen if we just took a piece of metal flat and shaped it to match on the two sides?

I think goteron made an extended charging handle to clear his gear, might ask for his input since he has a little more experience with fabricating the part.

The original prototypes did not have a reciprocating charging handle.

You can always rotate the gun slightly and reach over the upper reciever to get to the charging handle to run it from the 'off hand' side if you find yourself in that scenario. You would have to find another charging handle knob and spring pin for the far side if you did fab an ambi charging handle. I would recomend a charging handle with a shallow curve rather than sharp bends to facilitate this assembly. Just my opinion, you get what you paid for it.

Yup that seems to be the most practical solution at this point.

Don't really need one, but being that all of the gun's other controls are ambi, it only makes sense to have an ambi CH as well.
