Picked up an ACR basic. I would like to add a vertical grip... So I guess I need to add a rail section to the bottom of the rifle. What should I buy? A link would be best. Does Magpul make one?

I just picked up a rail section. Its a 9 slot which would of fit the afg. But not fully. I wasn't sure if I would like it. I wish I got it but did t want to spend the extra $40 when my rent is due. Plus I already have a grip pod and a tango down grip collecting dust. Anyone really like the angled fore grip?

Ok thanks I wasn't too sure. I picked it up for less than $10 cause it was there. Ill order a seven when I get my afg and move the nine.it looks good on there now if I didn't lose the grips I was going to put on. Gotta love moving and losing things from unpacking.

RE magpul grip accessories and the MOE/ACR rail. It always looked to me as if the polymer rail sections might weaken the grip a little as opposed to the grips that mount directly to the hand guard. Can anyone speak to this?

thanks,

You mean weaken where the rail mounts to the hand guard or weaken the grip itself. My tapco grip is a nice secure fit and the mounting hardware keeps it snug. I didn't crank the fastners down too much but enough.

it just seems like there would be a lot of flex in a polymer rail section on the bottom of the hand guard. I'm probably wrong. I've never been let down by magpul before!

I believe there is a little bit of give if the rail is over toqrued. Over the weekend I threw on a Moe foregrip on someone's AR and noticed that if it the additional rail was tightened too much, it was next to impossible to slide the AFG on. Loosend it up a tad and it slid on with less work. Still I would certainly trust Magpul's product.

Mines pretty solid. But I suppose I see where the afg wouldn't slide on easy of the rail was tweaked a bit from over tightening. I snugger mine gift but not burying it completely in the hand rail. Its nice adding sections where you want. Id rather have an enhanced rail. But its nice with just a section on the bottom for a grip and ill get one for the side for a light.

it could deform the rail section if you tighten it enough i guess, but once it's tight, i say maybe another 1/8th turn and locktite should be suffice. i just didnt crank mine down to experience deformity.

also, the AFG-1 larger profile does hinder it's application onto the handguard, not so much with the AFG-2. i have both, i like the afg-2 more for some reason, although i didnt think i would.
