According to Shooting Illustrated, a 7.62 x 39 mm barrel and bolt are coming in 2011!

Bushmaster is not resting on its laurels as the ACR gains momentum. I asked Ryan Smith, Bushmaster’s product manager for LE/tactical firearms, what’s coming down the pike. He explained a new lower-receiver group and magazine will accompany a 7.62×39 mm barrel-and-bolt option in 2011. The company is also determining whether a .30 Rem. AR version will be developed. Contrary to Internet rumors, there is no current plan of action for a 6.5 mm chambering, but work continues on a 6.8 mm SPC version. Finally—and always exciting for long-range nuts like me—Magpul is working on the design for a .308 Win. that may see life as a big brother to the ACR.

Nice, but i would like to see them come out with a 300BLK option first. The only change is the barrel. Everything stays the same including the STANAG magazine, bolt, etc.

I agree. I'm very excited for the 300 blk. I'd still like to have an AK kit for the ACR in my back pocket if SHTF.

I just bought a 300 whisper/300 fireball barrel from model 1 sales 1/8 twist- from what I have read it can be reamed to 300 blackout and still shoot whisper ammo. It came with 5/8 x 24 threads will have it back on saturday(tommorrow) with 1/2 x28 threads for a 3 lug adapter. If barrels become available soon I will buy a donor and put the hard ware on it- may even get brave and cut the piston down to carbine length otherwise it will be manually cycled -and very quiet!

The release of the "AK" lower means a 5.45 conversion shouldn't be far behind as well. It's not something I'm really interested in but it's nice to see the work. There are many folks wanting it so it should do reasonably well.
