I guess I'll kick this off since this is hopefully the primary cartridge I want an ACR in. My hopes are its a 6.5 Grendel but I dont know if Bill and Remington/Bushy could come to an agreement. The 6.5 Is a great cartridge and I think it would give the ACR general purpose capabilities from 0-1000m. Has anyone heard anything on the caliber if it isnt Grendel? I would imagine if it was a Grendel they'd be calling it that.

Could be the 6.5 MPC... I actually doubt this highly but I'm hopeful.

Then again it'd be kinda stupid as the only thing required to switch a 5.56 to a 6.5 MPC is a bbl in 6.5mm. All you'd have to do is order one in 5.56 and ask for a 6.5 bbl instead ( I think). I like the Grendel but it's just so darn expensive to shoot :'(. That said there's no commercial offerings of the MPC so I'd have to get into reloading.

The 6.5 MPC is actually a very good performer, can hurl a 95gr pill at 2800fps from a 20"bbl, 2600 from a 12".

The biggest problem with the 6.5G is that Bill Alexander has too much control (because of greed, IMO) over the round. To the point you have to pay licensing fees to commercially manufacture the round and that keeps the price per round so high.

Now there are other's 6.5 rounds that are exactly the same thing as the 6.5G.

""6.5 mm Grendel" is a registered trademark of Alexander Arms, LLC. In order to sidestep this branding (and/or any licensing fees required to use the "6.5 mm Grendel" name legally), other manufacturers tend to use different names for the same cartridge, such as "6.5 PPCX", "6.5 CSS" and "6.5 BPC", ".264 warrior magnum", and 6.5 sporter". The "6.5 PPCX" and "6.5 BPC" names both follow the lineage of the cartridge's true origin as an improved version of the "6.5 PPC" which was created in 1984 by Dr. Louis Palmisano (Co-developer of the PPC cartridge family) and WIlliam Davis, PHD and successfully applied in the AR-15 / M-16 rifle platform in 1998 by Arne Brennan. The "6.5 PPCX" is the name used by Arne Brennan for high precision bolt action rifles and is the chambering he used to achieve a 1.198" five shot group at 600 meters in March 2006. The "6.5 BPC" is a chambering created by Jim Borden of Borden Rifles and Dr. Louis Palmisano for benchrest shooting using 81-95 grain flat-base bullets. The "6.5 CSS" is the name given to an AR-15 match chambering designed to increase brass life."

Actually I checked out that link to the SSK 6.5 MPC and it look very, very interesting. I have also heard of a 6mm x 45 using the 5.56 case. The only difference is the case mouth has to be stretched just a little bit more.

That cartridge was developed in the 70's. At the time I don't think it's numbers (at least as a combat cartridge) weren't very good and it's mostly a varmint round now. It hurls an 80gr pill at about the same speed the MPC does a 95gr one. Not a huge difference but a notable one.

I'd love to be able to switch calibers just by changing barrels, that'd be a snap with the ACR. 5.56 to 6.5 MPC would be sweet, I'd certainly have to get into reloading though.

The 6.5 MPC could very well be a winner if it were in fact in production for a length of time to allow real world experience with it to be examined by the FBI, Sport hunters, Sport shooters, etc. The problem is, that things look good on paper for the round, but real world experience will be the true tale.

For the record, I too would love to see the 6.5 MPC become readily available like 6.8 SPC, 5.56, 7.62x51, 7.62x39, etc. If that happens I will vest in the 6.5 MPC round. ;D

Very true, I'd like to see what the MPC does in ballistics gel. Hopefully it will catch on but it will probably need an episode on Future Weapons to get out of the 6.8 and 6.5 Grendel's shadow ::)
