The man below says: "Yes, you're in a hot air balloon, hovering 30 feet above this field."
"You must be an NCO," says the balloonist.

"I am" replies the man. "How did you know?"
"Well," says the balloonist, "Everything you have told me is technically correct, but it's no use to anyone."

"Well," says the NCO, "You don't know where you are, or where you're going, but you expect me to be able to help. You're in the same position you were before we met, but now it's my fault."

For those that have never been in a real fire fight or who might have forgotten some of what they were taught, here you go:
1. Bring a gun. Preferably, bring at least two guns. Bring all of your friends who have guns.
2. Anything worth shooting is worth shooting twice. Ammo is cheap – life is expensive.
3. Only hits count. The only thing worse than a miss is a slow miss.
4. If your shooting stance is good, you’re probably not moving fast enough or using cover correctly.
5. Move away from your attacker. Distance is your friend. (Lateral and diagonal movement are preferred.)
6. If you can choose what to bring to a gunfight, bring a long gun and a friend with a long gun.
7. In ten years nobody will remember the details of caliber, stance, or tactics. They will only remember who lived.
8. If you are not shooting, you should be communicating, reloading, and running.
9. Accuracy is relative: most combat shooting standards will be more dependent on “pucker factor” than the inherent accuracy of the gun. Use a gun that works EVERY TIME. “All skill is in vain when an Angel blows the powder from the flintlock of your musket.”
10. Someday someone may kill you with your own gun, but they should have to beat you to death with it because it is empty.
11. Always cheat, always win. The only unfair fight is the one you lose.
12. Have a plan.
13. Have a back-up plan, because the first one won’t work.
14. Use cover or concealment as much as possible.
15. Flank your adversary when possible. Protect yours.
16. Don’t drop your guard.
17. Always tactical load and threat scan 360 degrees.
18. Watch their hands. Hands kill. (In God we trust. Everyone else, keep your hands where I can see them.)
19. Decide to be aggressive ENOUGH, quickly ENOUGH.
20. The faster you finish the fight, the less shot you will get.
21. Be polite. Be professional. But, have a plan to kill everyone you meet.
22. Be courteous to everyone, friendly to no one.
23. Your number one option for personal security is a lifelong commitment to avoidance, deterrence, and de-escalation.
24. Do not attend a gun fight with a handgun, the caliber of which does not start with anything smaller than “4″.
25. You can’t miss fast enough to win.

My favorites are 21 and 22. The rest are common sense.

Should I Consider an ACR?

I currently have a 20" AR-15 and need a carbine, and like the idea of a piston based just for ease of cleaning, so not a DI hater. Still, I'm looking at piston guns. I was primarily looking at piston AR-15's, specifically the PWS MK1 series; likely the MK114 or maybe going SBR with the MK112 or even MK110. I've read good about the LWRC as well, and a few others, but the MK1 seems to have struck me the most of my AR options.

In looking up piston AR's, one thing you hear from time to time is to look at the guns built for pistons from the ground up. I've read more than a few of the ACR vs. SCAR Wars threads (each promising A New Hope or something to the effect). The SCAR seems fine, however there are a few things that draw me to the ACR. Most notably, cost and aftermarket availability. The ACR gets a significant nod on the first being somewhat close to the piston AR's and a slight nod on the second since the aftermarket for ACRs and SCARs is still building.

So I am wondering if I should consider the ACR. I am looking for something accurate and reliable, reasonably lightweight, reliable, ergonomic, did I mention reliable(?), easy to clean and maintain, and, well, piston-driven. I'd also like something fun to shoot. I would also really like the idea of a modular gun that I can add a few accessories to. I am told I need rails and lots of accessories to be "tacticool." (Just kidding). In all seriousness, I just want something that will meet most of the requirements and have a long life shooting lead downrange. Anything else would be just for customizing to my own tastes. Nothing really dramatic, I do not really want a ton of stuff hanging from my gun, just want to be able to add stuff that might make it better or more fun for me to shoot.

Any thoughts how well the ACR might or might not fit these needs, or helping me decide which way to go? Anybody try the PWS MK114 or MK1 series AND the ACR that cares to chime in? Is there any inclination as to whether Remington will make their version available commercially, or if Bushmaster might adopt some of the changes into their version? I know I'm on an ACR forum, so it's understandable if you all nudge me toward the ACR, I'm just looking for any insight I can get to make an informed decision. Thanks in advance!

-Cheers

When I took out my safety selector switch the other day to begin modeling it in a solid modeling program I noticed it had some thermal damage to the left side switch. Not enough to make it fail but enough to catch my attention. I looked like hot gasses had been blasting it, I have yet to find any damage on the trigger box or lower receiver in that same area. If anyone else notices any similar damage we might wanna let bushmaster know so we can put some speed into getting say a metal safety selector as a safety measure.

Hi, just joined up. I'm interested in the ACR developments; haven't really been in the loop last few years and was thinking about getting one of these. Had a couple questions.

The differences between the Remington and the Bushmaster; what are they? I see the forearm looks different, and I know it weighs less so I assume the barrel is lightweight profile but is it a different twist?
Is the Remington product Military only, or is it being marketed to LEO as well?

For sale is a like-new set of Magpul Back Up Sights. They came on my ACR and I've only shot it three times. I have the set pin in the front but I can take it out for you to re-zero if you want. They will come in their original boxes. Let me know if you want pics. $50 shipped priority mail (2-3 days) with tracking info, or make me a reasonable offer. Thanks for looking :)
