    14.5" Barrel Feedback Thread

    123
For everyone with a 14.5"-ish barrel on your ACR give some feedback.
    Any loss in accuracy?
Any issues eating ammo of any kind?
Was any ports on the barrel or gas system adjusted/changed?
Any notice in handling weight and/or length?
    Who did your work?
    How much did you pay?
    How long did it take?
Any thing else you want to add?
    TIA

I dont shoot past 300 yards, so while I had to adjust the eotech, it wasnt any different in accuracy.
I found out yesterday my rifle wont eat Tula 55 grain, but seems like thats just crap ammo, not the rifle. Does fine with Federal XM193.
    No
Lighter in the front, seems more balanced now
American Spirit Arms in Scottsdale, AZ
    $85
I dropped it off, went to lunch, came back and it was done... huge place and they do all their work in house with their own machines
14.5 inch makes it look neater, I dont like seeing a lot of barrel

    Any loss in accuracy?

    No!

Any issues eating ammo of any kind?

No! Never shot Tula. It eats steel case Wolf and whatever Bear ammo I shot. Golden? Silver? Don't recall.

Was any ports on the barrel or gas system adjusted/changed?

    No!

Any notice in handling weight and/or length?

Yes, there was a huge difference. The rifle balances much better and is lighter.

    Who did your work?

    ADCO

    How much did you pay?

    Just over $480.

    How long did it take?

    A week.

Any thing else you want to add?

    Do it! Worth every penny!

    Hey Samm

Was you barrel reprofiled as well or just dimpled. I love how it turned out. I think I'm just gonna shorten my barrel and dimple it without reprofiling it.

My barrel was not reprofiled under the handguard. Honestly, I should have had that done. There is a lot of meat there that could be removed. ADCO did thin the barrel in front of the gas block and cut it to 14.5".

I'll probably sell this barrel and reprofile another one later.

Do you have spare barrels? Or can any mid length barrel do?

No difference when I did mine in terms of accuracy or function though handling was noticeable much better.

Statistics say you'll lose maybe 40fps in velocity though I never measured mine and the surplus ammo I shoot probably has an extreme spread greater than that.
When have any of our plans ever actually worked? We plan. We get there. All hell breaks loose.

The great thing about the ACR is that it takes any AR15 (M4 pattern) barrel, AFTER you have it machined for the operating rod support brackets. I have spare barrels in:

    .223 Wylde (pencil profile)
    5.56 NATO 1/7" twist
    5.45X39
    6.8ARP (optimized SPC chamber)

I'll soon have a barrel in 7.62X39 and I'm thinking about buying .300BLK and .204 Ruger barrels. The ACR will be my 'go to' weapon. My AK rifles are gone. This one needs to shoot the 5.45 and 7.62 Russian cartridges.
